The incident last winter also ended without a
suspect. The plan had been to follow the
tracks left by the snowmobile, but since a
posse could not be assembled before all the
snow melted, there was nothing to go on.

City's insurance
carrier on thin ice
The City Council is considering
switching carriers after a recent
dispute over coverage between the
City Treasurer and a secretary
working for the insurance agent.

The City of Hasty has not had a stellar credit
rating for quite some time.  In fact, most bills
are paid late, often after the "
This is your
final notice"
mailing.

"We aren't real concerned with other people's
deadlines", said the City Treasurer. "We have
enough problems meeting our own." He
explained that due dates were just somebody
else's opinion of a good time to send in your
money, and that those dates often don't
match up with anything in Hasty's budget.

Insurance is no exception.  The Hasty
Treasurer claims that the city's premiums are
paid often at the last minute, quite literally.
"This has never been a problem before.  I've
been doing it this way for years. When we get
a notice that they are going to cancel the
insurance for nonpayment next Monday at
12:01 pm, everyone knows exactly what that
means.  I get in the truck, and meet the agent
for lunch at 11, pay the bill, and we're good
for another three months."

The problem came up a few months ago when
the agency hired a new secretary. The Hasty
Treasurer went in around 10:30am with the
payment, as usual, only to find out the agent's
secretary canceled the policy at 10 o'clock
sharp. "I pick up the mail at nine, and there
was no payment from Hasty."

The premiums go towards policies Hasty
carries on it's buildings, it's [fleet of] maintain
enc vehicle[s], and liability for city crews when
they are out making repairs.  When the
insurance gets canceled, a notice is sent to
the State of Minnesota, which then revokes
certain licenses Hasty carries making it very
difficult to legally function on a day to day
basis.

Things only got worse when Mayor Wealor
went to the agency in an attempt to
straighten things out. "I made it clear that the
secretary had no right to do that, as she has
never even been to Hasty."

CAFÉ WITH HASTY
TIES CLOSES DOORS
The owner of the Hasty Embers
restaurant, which is in Maple Lake,
not Hasty, has announced it will sell
the St. Cloud store later this year.

This change is not expected to have much of
an effect on the Hasty café, except that service
might be a little faster.

The Hasty Area Hospitality Analyst  (Ha Ha)
predicts that since waitresses and cooks will
no longer be required to serve customers in St.
Cloud, service in Hasty will be faster, and food
should arrive at your table hotter.

Experts also predict that certain regional
ethnic food items that may have been served
at the St. Cloud location to please the diverse
customer base might show up on the menu at
Hasty.  If that should occur, it is recommended
that you try new items in moderation, no
matter how pleasing the picture on the menu
looks.  You may not like it at all, or it may
have a rather unpleasant aroma, and you
could offend those seated near you.
Hasty Hilton
de-construction
continues
A project expected to take about a
month is nearing completion, two
years after it began.

The demolish of the Hasty Hilton is
progressing nicely.  The Hilton, as well as
another similar condemned building in Hasty
have both been reduced to rubble.

"The frames are still intact", says the Mayor.
"We plan to apply for bridge permits for them
both."  Apparently, if the city can get a bridge
permit issued for the frames, they will no
longer be considered condemned buildings,
and will not be governed by laws relating to
condemned structures.

The City of Hasty only has land on one side of
the Mississippi river, so spanning that is out
of the question.  There are no other bodies of
water, or railroads, or anything, really, that
would need a bridge, but the Mayor is working
hard to get the permits.

There is video and additional photos of the
de-construction available at the bottom of the
